While discussing some concerns with a resident’s family member, Executive Director Charles Quinn realized the untapped value the family members' perspective could bring to the community's day-to-day operations.
“During our conversation, she mentioned that she had been asking for a Family Advisory Board for years. At that moment, I knew I had found the solution I was looking for,” Charles said. “I researched Family Boards and came up with our mission for ours.”
The Family Advisory Board at Traditions of Beavercreek was formed to carry out our work more effectively by having the job and our decisions informed by those with “lived experience.”
“By seeking different perspectives, we hope to solve problems and improve services with long-term benefits,” Charles said. Even with the best intentions, residents and families may find the experience of the decisions made by leadership disempowering. By involving them in the process and genuinely listening to their unique perspective, we can make better decisions for our residents.
One clear, specific goal for the Family Advisory Board is to make all future decisions easier, more transparent, and more collaborative.
“It is important that the Advisory Board Goals align with Traditions Management's mission and core values,” Charles commented.
